Time to Think by Hannah Barnes has been shortlisted for The Unwin Award

Hannah Barnes’s Time to Think: The Inside Story of the Collapse of the Tavistock’s Gender Service for Children has been shortlisted for the 2026 Unwin Award. The Unwin Award recognises non-fiction writers in the earlier stages of their careers whose work is considered to have made a significant contribution to the world. The winner is set to be revealed at a ceremony held at The Royal Institution in London on 21 April 2026.

The Unwin Award Judging Panel 2026 praised Barnes for her courageous, thorough and engaging writing, which has been at the centre of this conversation.

The Unwin Award – administered by The Publishers Association – is intended to champion and showcase the value of the UK publishing industry to the world. The Unwin Award has been made possible following a donation from the Unwin Charitable Trust.

The judging panel for the 2026 Award is chaired by Claudia Hammond – an award-winning broadcaster, author and psychology lecturer – who is joined by Sarfraz Manzoor, author, screenwriter, academic, broadcaster and journalist, and Caroline Sanderson, writer and books journalist.
